Cushing - Funeral Services for Dewey Whitaker, 83, of Cushing will be Saturday June 11th at 11am at the Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing. Burial will be at the Redland Cemetery in Cushing. Mr. Whitaker died Tuesday in Cushing. He was born January 7th 1933 in Lilbert, Texas to Alvin Dewey and Samantha Lee Raney Whitaker. He was a long time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mr. Whitaker was a graduate of Cushing High School in 1951. He then enlisted in the Air Force and served in Korea from 1951-1952, after he was injured, he returned to Wichita Falls Air Force base where he recovered from his injuries and spent the rest of his service time and four years in the reserves as a medic. In 1953 Mr. Whitaker gave up his Christmas Holiday to escort an airman who had contracted Polio; Dick O''Halloran; home to Kansas City, MO. Mr. Whitaker assisted Mr. O''Halloran with his medical and physical needs. Mr. Whitaker was instrumental in helping Mr. O''Halloran regain the use of his arms and hands. During this time Mr. Whitaker had the honor to meet and visit with President Harry S. Truman. When his time in the service was over, he attended Stephen F. Austin University and graduated in 1959. He retired from the Attorney Generals office of the State of Texas. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Wife Anna L. Whitaker, Son Duward E. Whitaker, Step Daughter Alice Sweatman, Brothers Rudolph Whitaker, Earl Whitaker, Paul Whitaker, Sister Hazel Whitaker. He is survived by Sons and Daughter-in-law Dana And Sheila Whitaker and Terry Whitaker; Long Time Companion Melba Blair;; Brother Rex Whitaker; Sister Thelma Whitehead; Grandchildren Kevin Whitaker, Amanda Whitaker; Great Grandchildren Johnathan Whitaker, Christopher Whitaker. Daughter-in-law Kathleen Whitaker. He was dedicated to his family, companion, community, and church. He will be missed. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:00-10:30 prior to the funeral service.
