Delores Clemons Obituary

Delores Walker Clemons, 78, of Cushing, TX, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023 in Tyler, TX.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m., at the Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing.  Burial will follow at the Cushing City Cemetery.

Delores was born in Houston, TX to Leo and Ophelia Rawlinson Walker on September 2, 1944. Her family soon moved to Sacul, TX where she was raised.  It was here that she met her best friend and childhood sweetheart, Arthur Joe Clemons.  Delores went on to graduate from Cushing High School in 1962.  After college, she and Arthur were married on August 27, 1966 and made their home in Cushing, TX where they raised their two daughters.

Delores attended Stephen F. Austin State University to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  She taught many years as a 4th grade teacher at Cushing Elementary School, touching many lives and shaping many young minds.  Later on she received her Master’s of Education degree and became Elementary principal for Cushing Elementary School.  In total, she served the community of Cushing for 34 years as an educator.   Upon retirement, she and Arthur enjoyed traveling all over the United States as well as other parts of the world and most importantly were a constant presence in the lives of their three grandchildren.

Delores was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Cushing where she served as the church pianist and secretary.  She was involved for many years in community outreach through her church.  She also served as secretary/treasurer for the Cushing City Cemetery Association.  Delores was a talented artist and enjoyed painting pictures of all the places she had been and seen.  She was an avid gardener, growing many beautiful flowers and creating the most beautiful gardens in her yard.  However, her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.  She was the best “Granna” any kid could ask for.  She rarely missed a sporting event, concert, or any other event they were involved in.  Most importantly, Delores was a child of God acting as a faithful servant to anyone in need.  She served as the hands and feet of Jesus all throughout her life.

Delores was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Megan Jo Clemons, her parents, Leo and Ophelia Walker, and father-in-law Arthur William Clemons.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur Joe Clemons of Cushing, Daughter and Son-in-Law, Shonda and Daaron Dwyer of Cushing, Daughter and Son-in-Law, Amy and Chad Reeves of Cushing, Brother and Sister-in-Law, Ollis and Peggy Walker of Cushing, Mother-in-Law, Lela Clemons of Cushing, and Grandchildren, Walker Reeves, Sydney Dwyer, and Tessa Reeves, all of Cushing.  She is also survived by nephew and wife, Cary and Stephanie Walker and great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Daaron Dwyer, Chad Reeves, Walker Reeves, Cary Walker, Tyler Walker, and Cutter Walker.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Lynn Moore, Robert Sides, and Ronnie Tidwell.

Memorials may be given to Nacogdoches HOPE Food Pantry,  American Cancer Society or MDAnderson cancer research.  The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hospice of East Texas as well as First United Methodist Church and McKnight Church of Cushing.
