Funeral services for Jimmy D. Sparks will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing, Texas with Bro. Toby Self officiating. There will be a visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service on Sunday.
Jimmy D. Sparks, 77, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away on May 11, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones after a hard fought battle with cancer. Jimmy was was born on January, 22, 1945 in Orange, Texas. He spent his childhood in Nederland, Texas until he joined the Army National Guard in 1965. Jimmy was active in the Army National Guard for 11 years where he received his “Jump Wings” Parachutist badge, the Rifle M16A1 Sharpshooter Badge, and the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal. After his time serving in the Army National Guard, Jimmy began his career at Texaco refinery in Port Arthur working as a powerhouse engineer. He retired in 2003 after 35 years of service at Texaco.
Jimmy married the love of his life, rock, and best friend, Shelia on April 19, 2003. Many years were spent caring for their Longhorns and other livestock, growing gardens together, and enjoying life outside on the farm. They enjoyed traveling the world together on cruises and watching their family and grandchildren grow.
Jimmy lived passionately and loved deeply. His relationship with Jesus, his family, and his country were everything to him. Jimmy never met a stranger, and his stories were unmatched. You could meet him in passing and leave the conversation feeling like you had known him your whole life. He so deeply loved everyone he knew and he had an admirable loyalty to his country. Jimmy became involved in the American Legion where he spent many joyful days serving his time in the years before his passing . He served as the the post commander for 6 years where he was instrumental in the establishment and construction of the new building for Post 86 in 2018.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Mertie and Preston Sparks.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Shelia, of Nacogdoches, TX, daughter Dana Bush of Port Neches, TX, Son Dale Sparks of Lumberton, TX, Stepchildren Jereme Martin and wife Wendy of Cushing, TX, Deanna Childers and husband Clint of Pollok, TX, and sister Jeanette Freeman and Husband Joe of Hempstead TX. Grandchildren Brinlee Bush, Blaine, Jesse, and Cassidee Sparks, Clayton and Addison Martin, Ryan Dempsey, Hannah Pennington and husband Matt, and great-grandson Beckett Pennington, and many loving extended members and friends.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Brittany Wallace and the Harbor Hospice team for their love and support during this difficult journey.
Pallbearers will be Blaine Sparks, Jesse Sparks, Clayton Martin, Jereme Martin, David Broussard, and Matthew Pennington.
