Sammie was born in Cleveland, Texas to J.J. and Irene Norris on August 7, 1947 and was the youngest of 12 children. He went to school and graduated at Splendora, Texas. He leaves behind Jerline Brown Norris (married on January 14, 2022), many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
After Sammy graduated from high school, he went to work with his brothers’ hauling logs. He then went to work at Canteen Vending Company in Houston, Texas for 15 plus years in the maintenance department.
Sammie retired from Houston to move to the country with his family. Shortly after, Sammie suffered a major car accident leaving him with head trauma, yet still went on to establish a successful mowing business in Cushing where he had many clients and friends that loved him.
Sammie loved to be outside. He loved to tinker with lawn mowers, his yard, and his garden. He also liked to play dominoes, cards, scrabble, and bingo, and could hardly be beat in any of these games. In his earlier years, he loved to fish for bass, fish in the bay, and to hunt. He was also a good basketball player.
Sammie is preceded in death by his wife Joy Lynn Norris, his son Sammie Lee Norris, Jr., parents J.J. and Irene Norris, and 11 siblings.
Pallbearers will be: CJ Rawlinson, Calvin White, Jake Crawford, Ryan Rawlinson, Blake Rawlinson, and Michael Koonce. Honorary Pallbearers: Nick Freeman, Shaun Stout, Riley Ogden, Jason Sprayberry, and Dwayne Rawlinson.

When you think of me just remember -
The good times, the laughter, the past.
Can you remember me when I was at my best?
For these are the times I have missed,
But now – I am at rest!
